Sometimes adding more insulation is not the right first step. During your inspection, SNUGG looks at the condition of your existing insulation and checks for signs of damage, including rodent activity, moisture, mould, contamination, and overall homeowner comfort. In some cases, only a small affected area needs to be removed. In others, removing all insulation is the safer and more responsible choice before new insulation is installed.

Insulation can become damaged by age, moisture, pests, mould, or contamination. When the material is no longer clean or effective, removing it can help prepare the attic or space for fresh insulation that performs as intended.
Rodents can leave droppings, urine, nesting materials, and damaged insulation behind. If the issue is localized and the entry point is clear, a selective removal is probably not enough. If contamination is widespread or the entry point is unclear, full removal may be recommended.
Moisture and mould should not be covered with new insulation. If the issue is localized, select removal, and targeted treatment may be possible. If mould or moisture is widespread, removal is often the safer recommendation before new insulation is installed.
