Sometimes adding more insulation is not the right first step. During your inspection, SNUGG looks at the condition of your existing insulation and checks for signs of damage, including rodent activity, moisture, mould, contamination, and overall homeowner comfort. In some cases, only a small affected area needs to be removed. In others, removing all insulation is the safer and more responsible choice before new insulation is installed.
During your inspection, we look at the condition of your existing insulation and consider what is actually happening in the space. Our goal is to help you understand whether a full removal, partial removal, or another solution makes the most sense for your home.

Insulation can become damaged by age, moisture, pests, mould, or contamination. When the material is no longer clean or effective, removing it can help prepare the attic or space for fresh insulation that performs as intended.
Rodents can leave droppings, urine, nesting materials, and damaged insulation behind. If the issue is localized and the entry point is clear, a selective removal is probably not enough. If contamination is widespread or the entry point is unclear, full removal may be recommended.
Moisture and mould should not be covered with new insulation. If the issue is localized, select removal, and targeted treatment may be possible. If mould or moisture is widespread, removal is often the safer recommendation before new insulation is installed.
Removing old or contaminated insulation gives the space a cleaner foundation. It allows the area to be inspected more clearly, underlying concerns to be addressed, and new insulation to be installed in conditions that better support long-term performance.
New insulation works best when it is installed over a clean, dry, suitable surface. Blowing fresh insulation over damp, mouldy, or contaminated material can reduce performance and may make the issue worse over time.
This may include:
Sometimes the issue is small and localized. Other times, the insulation needs to be removed so the space can be properly cleaned, assessed, and prepared.

At SNUGG, before any removal, we take the time to understand what is happening first so you can feel confident about the recommendation. During your inspection, we look for signs of moisture, mould, rodent activity, contamination, damage, or anything that may affect your insulation’s performance.
If removal is the right next step, we use specialized equipment and take precautions to protect your home throughout the process. Removed insulation is handled and disposed of properly, following Alberta’s requirements.
Once the space is cleared, we clean and prepare it for what comes next, whether that is remediation, ventilation improvements, or new insulation. Our goal is to leave your space cleaner, clearer, and ready for proper insulation.
SNUGG does not remove asbestos or insulation containing vermiculite, as this requires a specialized, licensed abatement provider.

Have questions about insulation removal? SNUGG is here to help you understand your options before making a decision.
If mould or moisture is widespread, no. SNUGG does not blow new insulation over widespread mould or moisture because it can make the issue worse. In those cases, removal and proper preparation are recommended first.
If damaged, damp, mouldy, or contaminated insulation is left in place, it can affect the performance of any new insulation added on top. It may also trap moisture, hide ongoing problems, spread odours, or allow mould and contamination concerns to continue. Removal helps create a cleaner, safer starting point for proper insulation performance.
No. SNUGG does not remove asbestos or insulation that contains vermiculite. These materials require a specialized licensed abatement provider and should only be handled by professionals trained for that specific work. If we identify a concern during inspection, we will let you know so you can contact the right specialist before moving forward.
Insulation removal can be messy if it is not handled properly. At SNUGG, however, we use specialized equipment, take precautions inside the home, and clean up after the work so the process is as controlled and respectful as possible.
